Unwritten asks people to say true things to each other. That only works if it is genuinely safe to stop.

You can always pass

Every question has a pass. It sits next to answering, looks the same, and takes one tap. You are not asked why. Other members are not told. Nothing about your Circle changes afterwards.

We treat this as a design constraint rather than a feature. If passing looked like giving up, we would have built pressure into the product — and pressure is the thing most likely to make someone say something they regret.

Depth is chosen, not assumed

Sessions begin lightly. Questions go further only when a Circle has agreed to let them, and your Guide asks before it changes register. Nobody is walked into a difficult question by surprise.

Questions that could land hard carry a note before you see them, so you can decide whether tonight is the night.

For first responders and clinicians

For a crew or a unit, questions ask about the person, never the incident. A question will not invite you to recount a call, a patient, or a scene. It will ask what the work has made of you, which is a different question and a safer one to answer next to people you still have to work with tomorrow.

Nothing you say here is a report, a debrief, or a record. Unwritten has no professional standing and does not pretend otherwise.

If someone is in danger

Unwritten is not a crisis service and cannot respond to an emergency. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number.

When a session touches something that needs more than a conversation, your Guide stops asking questions and points to real help. It will not try to handle it.

Reporting

Any member can report an answer or a member. Reports go to trained reviewers, not to your Circle. Reporting is private — the person you report is not told who reported them.

Your Guide is a facilitator

It asks questions, keeps everyone included, and closes the session properly. It does not give advice about your health, and it does not offer an opinion on anyone’s situation. It is good at asking. That is the whole job.
